Banff is one of those rare places that actually feels magical. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I stepped into a snow globe. It’s not just beautiful—it’s cinematic, dreamy, and honestly, a total bucket-list destination if you love winter.

I went during ski season, and it was everything I could’ve hoped for. I skied at both Sunshine Village and Lake Louise, and each had its own vibe. Sunshine was this gorgeous winter wonderland, with wide open runs, perfect powder, and that cozy ski lodge energy. It’s also less crowded than Lake Louise, which made the whole experience feel a little more relaxed. Lake Louise, on the other hand, felt a bit more dramatic and grand—with incredible views, longer runs, and that stunning frozen lake backdrop. Both are absolutely worth visiting if you’re in Banff in the winter.

One of the most magical moments of my trip was visiting Lake Louise and actually skating on the frozen lake. There’s something so surreal about gliding across this iconic lake with snow-dusted mountains surrounding you—it feels like a scene from a holiday movie. The ice is well-maintained, and you can even rent skates right there. Whether you’re skating or just walking around taking in the views, it’s one of those experiences you’ll never forget.

But skiing and skating are just the beginning. There’s a whole world of winter activities waiting for you. I went snowshoeing through quiet pine forests, visited the frozen waterfalls at Johnston Canyon, and even tried dogsledding (yes, it was as fun as it sounds!). There are also horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot springs, and so many cozy cafés to warm up in with a hot cocoa or mulled wine.
I stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs, and it was honestly a dream. It’s this historic, castle-like hotel nestled in the heart of the mountains. The service was amazing—super thoughtful and warm, just like everyone I met in Banff. Canadians are truly the kindest people, and I felt so welcome the entire time. The hotel has everything you could possibly want: a luxurious spa, a heated outdoor pool surrounded by snow, beautiful restaurants, lounges with fireplaces, and even a little champagne bar. It felt like a fairy tale from the moment I checked in.

Banff in the winter feels peaceful, magical, and like the kind of place you want to return to again and again. It’s romantic, refreshing, and just so good for the soul.
